Alleghany Highlands Public Schools releasing three hours early on solar eclipse day

ALLEGHANY HIGHLANDS, Va. (WFXR)– Alleghany Highlands Public Schools announced students will be released three hours early on solar eclipse day, Monday, April 8.

According to the school district, the early release is in place to avoid timing difficulties that might occur during the solar eclipse.

The eclipse will occur during the normal bus dismissal times at several school buildings. The early dismissal will allow students, at their parents’ discretion, to view the eclipse without disruption and help avoid any concerns with students trying to view the eclipse while riding buses.

Funding from the Alleghany Foundation will provide students with solar-lensed specialized glasses to allow them to view the eclipse avoiding eye damage.

AHPS says parents with questions should contact the school their student attends.
