It’s a sad day indeed when we can not only say — but outright verify — that the presidential nominee of a major U.S. party routinely says offensive, derogatory, and sexist things about women (aka: half of the population). But thanks to one Donald J. Trump, that’s the reality we’re living in.

And if you watched last night’s debate, then you likely heard about the things he once said about Miss Universe winner Alicia Machado, who won the Miss Universe pageant the first year he took ownership of the show. If you need a refresher, he called her everything from “Miss Piggy” because she gained some weight after winning, all the way to, “Miss Housekeeping” because of her Latin American heritage. UGH.

But Entertainment Weekly informed us that she has bounced back with a brilliant response:

“I received my passport ! I’m ready to vote For my country for you @HillaryClinton for my daughter For women workers.”

She also appeared in this very effective campaign ad for Clinton, where you can see footage of Machado being treated like a “lab rat” during the year she worked for Trump as Miss Universe. She even said the experience gave her body image problems that lasted for years.

“I wouldn’t eat, and would still see myself as fat, because a powerful man had said so.”

This quote from Machado says it all:

“I think Donald Trump definitely lacks the ability, experience, preparation, and human qualities to be president of the United States.”

We’re glad that Machado is raising awareness about her traumatic experience and humiliation at the hands of Donald Trump, because people need to know this about a person positioned to potentially lead our nation.

Thank you for sharing your story, Alicia. We know it will make a difference!
