Alexandria shooting: Videos capture harrowing scene
Videos taken near the scene of the shooting at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Va., capture the harrowing moments as gunfire erupted in the Washington, D.C., suburb early Wednesday.
Noah Nathan was walking his dogs at a dog park just outside Eugene Simpson Stadium Park when shots rang out shortly after 7 a.m. He began filming.
More than two dozen shots can be heard in the nearly three-minute clip, which Nathan recorded while lying on the ground with his dogs behind a chain-link fence.
“Do we know where he’s at?” Nathan can be heard asking in the footage. “I assume people have been calling 911 already.”

Five people, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and two Capitol Police officers, were wounded by the suspected gunman, later identified as 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson, of Belleville, Ill., officials say. Hodgkinson was shot by police and later died. Scalise underwent surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where he is listed in critical condition on Wednesday afternoon.
A person thought to be Scalise can be seen lying on the ground motionless near second base in Nathan’s video.
“Hey, is that guy OK out there?” Nathan asks. “That guy out there — has he been shot?”
In another video taken by a woman who lives a block away from the field, as many as 30 shots can be heard.
Tryshah Taylor, who recorded the video from her back porch, told the Hill newspaper that she began recording shortly after the shooting began.
“Who are they shooting?” Taylor can be heard during a pause in the gunfire. A few seconds later, more gunshots could be heard.
