Following his well-deserved pair of Emmy nominations for embodying Donald Trump on SNL, Alec Baldwin just lined up another iconic live role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he'll star in a live televised production of Aaron Sorkin's Broadway play A Few Good Men, airing on NBC next year.

Baldwin will play Colonel Nathan Jessup, the role made famous by Jack Nicholson in Rob Reiner's 1992 film adaptation. This live staging marks the first live production of a Broadway drama in more than 50 years, and follows the numerous live musicals NBC has aired in recent years including Peter Pan and The Sound of Music.

Sorkin and NBC have been working on a fresh version of A Few Good Men for more than a year, but casting and scheduling have both proved tricky. "Alec is one of our greatest actors," Sorkin said in a statement. "Having him play this role-live onstage for a television audience-is a dream come true. This will be a brand-new take on Nathan Jessup, and I expect that Alec is going to bust through TV screens and right into living rooms." Which sounds… good?

No word yet on who will tackle the Tom Cruise role of rookie military lawyer Daniel Kaffee, who butts heads with Baldwin's Jessup in the course of defending three Marines who are on trial for murder, and is famously informed by Jessup "you can't handle the truth!"
