The QCBJ bought the rights to the former Athena Awards and renamed them the Women of Influence Awards to recognize women who have made an impact in the Quad Cities region. Over 40 accomplished, professional and community-minded women were nominated. Swanson was chosen as a recipient of the award by an independent selection committee.

“I am very honored to receive this recognition as a Woman of Influence,” said Swanson. “I am grateful to be part of a community that allows me to be engaged as a mentor and role model. So many people have influenced me, and I strive to share that with others.”

Swanson is a workplace consultant for Lincoln Office in Moline. She was elected to Rock Island City Council in April 2019 and reelected to a second term in April 2023. She has worked to find solutions for residents experiencing homelessness and poverty, advanced progress for the Rock Island Public Library and played a key role in distributing millions of dollars in ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds.

Swanson has volunteered with Family Resources, YWCA Yes She Can, Skip-A-Long Family and Community Services, Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce as an ambassador and United Way Women United. She has served as a mentor to four women through the Lead(h)er Engagement Committee.

The Women of Influence awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. at the Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center, 2021 State Street in Bettendorf.
