The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism estimates there are more than 170,000 deaths related to alcohol each year in the United States.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says in West Virginia excessive drinking accounts for 660 deaths each year.

Sheila Moran, Director for Marketing and Communications for First Choice Services, said there is always help out there.

“I think it’s important to let people know that on our Help for WV helpline alcohol is the number two called about substance. That’s right after opioids, which is mainly heroin and fentanyl at this point, so something to take very seriously. And if you do find that you’re crossing that line, maybe becoming addicted, we have help. We can usually get people in within twenty-four hours of their call,” said Moran.

If you need help, you’re urged to reach out. Here in West Virginia you can call 211 for information on resources available to you.
