Alco Stores moving corporate headquarters to Texas from Kansas

NEW YORK (AP) -- Alco Stores Inc. is moving its corporate headquarters to Texas from Kansas because it wants to be in a more metropolitan area.

CEO Rich Wilson said in a statement on Wednesday that the move to Coppell, Texas, from Abilene, Kan., will give the company easy access to many of its stores, other major retailers and transportation for its workers and business partners.

Wilson said that relocating to a more accessible location for vendors is "critical," and said that Coppell — which is a Dallas suburb — will help it to attract and keep executive-level personnel.

The move, which will occur in June, does not affect Alco's Abilene store or its distribution center there.

Alco has 217 stores in 23 states selling home furnishings, outdoor products, electronics sporting goods and clothing.
