Albuquerque public pools to open on staggered schedule

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque city pools are getting for this season’s swimmer but this year’s grand opening will probably require a pen and paper due to changes in the Albuquerque Public Schools’ schedule.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue welcomes 3 new fire engines

Sierra Vista, and West Mesa outdoor pools are opening May 11, Eisenhower is opening May 18, with the rest opening Memorial Day weekend. They will then close for the week since most of the lifeguard staff will be finishing up high school classes. All city pools will be open for the summer on June 1.

The North Domingo Baca and Civic Plaza splash pads have already opened. The Cesar Chavez, Manzano Mesa, and West Gate splash pads are opening on June 17. The Wells Park splash pad remains closed while the park is under construction. The Alamosa splash pad is slated to open later this year.

The city is offering special deals at city pools:

  • Kids 17 and under swim free on Sundays

  • Children under the age of two swim for free

  • $1 swim on Friday night at select pools

Registration for June swim lessons opens on May 4. July registration will begin on June 15. The Parks and Recreation Department is participating in the World’s Largest Swim Lesson on June 20 offering free swim lessons to adults and kids over the course of three hours.
