Albuquerque mayor, police chief speak on APD’s compliance with DOJ reform
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Albuquerque is taking a victory lap over the Albuquerque Police Department’s compliance with U.S. Department of Justice reform. The latest monitor’s report, published on Monday, suggested APD is 96% compliant with more than 200 changes in the court-approved settlement agreement. A judge still needs to sign off on the monitor’s recommendation.

Mayor Tim Keller says it’s a big step forward. “It’s about a department being able to both train and use, when necessary, constitutional force and when it’s not constitutional, hold themselves accountable and hold those officers accountable. That’s what this is speaking to and that’s what the reform process is literally all about by definition,” said Keller.
If approved, APD will have to prove they can sustain reform efforts for the next two years.
