Albuquerque man sentenced to 21 years in prison for murdering ex-girlfriend

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend more than two years ago before fleeing to Louisiana was sentenced on Tuesday. Michael Kelly opened fire on Brandi Rael’s car at the Copper Ridge Apartments in November 2021 killing his former girlfriend. He was captured in Louisiana a year later and extradited back to New Mexico.

Kelly pled guilty to second-degree murder and tampering with evidence last month. Judge Lucy Solimon sentenced him to 21 years behind bars.
