Albuquerque Fire Rescue says outside fire response program was a success

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Fire Rescue says a pilot program to respond to outdoor fires this winter was a success. The department began deploying a brush truck late last year patrolling the city to find and contain fires that break out outside of a building.

AFR says out of the 3,700 outside fires from December 30 to April 19, Brush Truck 3 and its crew handled nearly half of them. It was the department’s busiest truck in January and February. “That truck didn’t just respond to calls for service. It actually patrolled them, meaning they were generating their own calls for service. So that’s one reason why we saw the spike in numbers,” said Lt. Jason Fejer, Albuquerque Fire Rescue.

AFR says the model worked so well, they are looking to bring it back next winter. They want to develop a similar program for EMS calls.
