  • Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska has some thoughts about Mitt Romney's salmon preparation.

  • [H]e's wrong about salmon!" Murkowski said on Twitter of her fellow Senate Republican.

  • According to a forthcoming biography, Romney put salmon on a burger bun and "smothered it' in ketchup.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski is sad to lose her fellow Republican dealmaker in Sen. Mitt Romney, but the Alaskan could do without Romney's reported favored way to consume her state's prized fish.

"Grateful to serve with @SenatorRomney, even if he's wrong about salmon!" Murkowski wrote on Twitter with a highlighted screenshot of an excerpt from the senator's forthcoming biography.

In the book, journalist McKay Coppins recounts how Romney eats dinner alone most nights in his Washington home. Murkowski gifted Romney a bunch of salmon fillets, but since the Utah Republican is not a fan of the fish he found an unusual way to consume them.

"He didn't especially like salmon but found that if he put it on a hamburger bun and smothered it in ketchup, it made for a serviceable meal," Coppins wrote in "Romney: A Reckoning."

Murkowski has at times found a kindred spirit in Romney, who has been at the center of key bipartisan deals in recent years. The pair voted for Biden's infrastructure law, the most sweeping gun restrictions to pass the Senate in decades, and federal protections for same-sex marriages. They were also two of the seven Republicans to vote to convict former President Donald Trump for inciting the Capitol riot. Trump was ultimately acquitted.

Romney announced on Thursday that he would not seek reelection next year, calling for a new generation of leadership for the Republican Party. The anecdote was a funny aside in a book that apparently has fellow GOP senators nervous about how the 2012 GOP presidential nominee will dish about them.

A man who once ironed his shirt cuffs while wearing the shirt, Romney proudly blazes his own trail. When it comes to food, he is a big fan of hot dogs.

"Hot is my favorite meat. I love hot dog," Romney gushed in July on National Hot Dog Day. "I love them in buns, I love them outside of buns, I love them with baked beans. I just like hot dogs."

In the video, Romney was wielding a hot dog with a healthy amount of ketchup. But we will have to wait for another day to relish that debate.
