Alan Titchmarsh Airlifted To Hospital In Gallstone Scare After Eating Fish And Chips
Television gardener Alan Titchmarsh was airlifted to hospital in agony with gallstones after eating fish and chips – two years after he declared he wanted to get his life “in balance” to ward off heart disease.
He collapsed after his fried feast, which was followed by an Easter egg, a week ago last Tuesday.
A witness told The Sun: “He came in on a wheelchair. He looked a bit grey.”
Gallstones are linked to a fatty diet and Titchmarsh has previously revealed he takes statins to lower his cholesterol.
The 66-year-old, above, and below with wife Alison, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, near his Isle of Wight home, before being flown to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth where he was given the all-clear.
Last night his agent said: “Alan was in agony after eating fish and chips and an Easter egg. He was airlifted to hospital but was quickly told the pain was caused by gallstones.
“He is in tip-top condition and has been out boating since. He will be looking at the food he eats.”
The gardener and erotic novelist revealed in 2014 he took pills every day to ward off the heart disease that has killed several male relatives.
His father died of a heart attack aged 62, prompting the former ITV daytime star quit his chat show and the BBC‘s Chelsea Flower Show team to “ease up a bit”.
He said at the time: “I’m on statins. The men in my family have had a tendency to die from heart disease relatively young. Outliving my dad has made me think about things.
“I want to get my life more in balance.”
