A corrected version of the story is below:

Alabama woman, daughter killed in accidents 30 minutes apart

Authorities say an Alabama woman and her young daughter died in separate traffic accidents on the same highway only 30 minutes apart

VALLEY HEAD, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say an Alabama woman and her 8-year-old daughter died in separate traffic accidents on the same highway only 30 minutes apart.

DeKalb County Coroner Tom Wilson says 39-year-old Julia Yates Patterson died in a head-on crash with a pickup truck about 3 p.m. Tuesday in northeast Alabama. Police say one of the vehicles crossed the center line before the crash.

Wilson says the woman's 8-year-old daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Patterson, ran in front of a car and was struck and killed about 30 minutes later. Police say the girl had just gotten home from school and wouldn't have known about her mother's death.

Alabama state troopers are investigating both deaths, which happened about 7 miles (10 kilometers) apart on Alabama 117.
