Alabama reportedly blocking grad transfer OL from going to SEC school
Here we go again?
Alabama offensive lineman Brandon Kennedy has graduated and wants to transfer to a different school to continue his college football career. And according to Al.com, Alabama will let him do just that as long as he doesn’t choose an SEC school.
Redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Brandon Kennedy is interested in transferring to Auburn or Tennessee but isn’t even currently allowed to have contact with those schools, any other school in the SEC or any of the Crimson Tide’s future non-conference opponents, sources told AL.com.
Kennedy, who ended the spring as Alabama’s backup center, is in the process of appealing.
It’s a similar situation to the one that happened in 2016 between Maurice Smith and Alabama.
Smith, a defensive back, wanted to go to Georgia as a graduate transfer to play for former Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart in Smart’s first year with the school. Alabama and coach Nick Saban weren’t keen on the idea.
Perhaps not-so-coincidentally, former Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt is the new coach at Tennessee.
A tense back-and-forth ensued two years ago before Alabama relented and allowed Smith to transfer to the Bulldogs. Smith also had to get a waiver from the SEC once Alabama said it would release him from his scholarship, so Kennedy will have to go through the same process if Alabama chooses to let him go to another conference school. Which it should.
