Alabama named in top 10 conspiracy theory hotspots, according to poll

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — In the season of elections and other heated debates, sports data company Oddspedia jumped into the world of conspiracy theories and how they may impact results.

“Amidst the chaos and debates, one phenomenon stands out—Americans’ love for conspiracy theories,” Oddspedia’s website said. “These aren’t just whispers in the shadows; they’re bold assertions and speculative tales woven into the fabric of American political discourse.”

According to a news release, the company conducted a poll of 3,000 Americans to find which state was the most likely to be conspiracy theorists. Poll results showed that Alabama was named the No. 4 conspiracy state hotspot.

  4. Alabama

  6. Mississippi

  7. Kentucky

  8. Nevada

  9. Washington

  10. District of Columbia

Although Alabama ranked in 4th place, four out of five Americans have acknowledged belief in conspiracy theories. According to the poll, Republicans are twice as likely (35%) to believe in conspiracy theories compared to Democrats (14%) and Independents (20%).

83% of Americans recognized the impact of conspiracy theories on public opinion and 90% acknowledged that conspiracy theories can sway voters’ perceptions on candidates, according to the poll.

Other results found that the most common conspiracy theories were Government involvement, health and medical manipulation, secure societies and global influence, historical revisions and hidden truths, and extra-terrestrial and cosmic conspiracies.
