Alabama’s March 5 primary election results have been certified (PDFs)
MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The results for Alabama’s March 5 primary election are in. According to a press release, Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen certified the results and candidates ahead of the April 16 runoff.

What is state election result canvassing?
Per Ballotpedia, “State election result canvassing, also known as the certification of state election results, are the laws governing the certification and review of state election votes.”
Laws governing the certification of results differ by state, but in Alabama, election results are certified “on the second Friday next after the election at the hour of 12:00 noon.”
The United States Election Assistance Commission website notes that although election officials make election results public as soon as possible before the certification happens, the results are still unofficial.
“Election certification refers to the process of election officials attesting that the tabulation and canvassing of the election are complete and accurate and that the election results are a true and accurate accounting of all votes cast in a particular election.”

‘A fair, secure, and transparent election’
Secretary Allen said this was the first statewide election conducted under his administration and he noted that it was successful.
“Today, this Office certified the results of a fair, secure, and transparent election,” said Secretary Allen. “The March 5th Primary Election was the first statewide election conducted under this Administration.
“I am proud to know that it was administered with election integrity and security as the top priority, and I look forward to carrying that same priority into the administration of the April 16th runoff.”
