Alabama man facing felony charges following Terrebonne Parish armed robbery

TERREBONNE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — An Alabama man is facing multiple charges after allegedly robbing a man in a store’s bathroom in Terrebonne Parish.

Deputies with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office said that on Thursday, April 4, they responded to a business in the 3800 block of West Park Avenue on a call of a disturbance.

The caller reportedly told deputies that he had been robbed at gunpoint in the store’s bathroom and that the suspect took his wallet.

Deputies said the victim provided them with details of the weapon and a description of the man, later identified as 46-year-old Dernathius Sheward Jackson.

An investigation began and TPSO deputies said they found a man matching Jackson’s description near the store.

As deputies continued to search for the weapon, they said Jackson allegedly ran away in an attempt to evade an arrest but was caught soon after.

Further investigation revealed that Jackson had been traveling in a vehicle reportedly stolen out of Alabama, which is where deputies say they located evidence of the theft.

Jackson was booked in the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on charges of:

  • Armed Robbery

  • Armed Robbery

  • Use of a firearm

  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

  • Theft of a motor vehicle

  • Resisting an officer

No bond has been set.
