Alabama A&M offers Birmingham Southern $52 million for campus

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WHNT) — Alabama A&M submitted a $52 million offer to purchase the Birmingham Southern campus Wednesday, according to a University spokesperson.

News 19 confirmed the offer Thursday afternoon and although details of that offer are not known at this time, an A&M official says the campus would be a stand-alone campus under the A&M umbrella.

“We are confident that our offer positions us to build on the BSC legacy and make new ground for AAMU,” the spokesperson told News 19.

On April 29, the University confirmed to News 19 that they were preparing to make an offer to buy BSC, which will close at the end of May.

The announcement BSC would be closing came over a year after college officials admitted the institution was $38 million in debt. Approximately 700 students were enrolled at BSC in the Spring 2024 semester, News 19’s sister station CBS42 reported.
