Akron father pleads guilty to role in death of 6-year-old who died after fentanyl exposure

The father of a 6-year-old boy who died after a possible fentanyl exposure pleaded guilty Monday to involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony, according to Summit County prosecutors.

William Huston, 32 of Akron, also pleaded guilty to endangering children, a third-degree felony, and possession of a fentanyl-related compound, a felony five. A possession of cocaine charge was dismissed.

Represented by attorney Job Perry, Huston was scheduled for a jury trial Monday. That trial was canceled in light of his plea.

Huston is scheduled to be sentenced at 2 p.m. on April 18.

Police say child may have ingested fentanyl

Akron police were dispatched at about 7:36 p.m. on May 31 to a home on the 700 block of Moraine Avenue for a child who was not breathing.

Upon arriving, the child was unresponsive. He was taken to Akron Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Akron police believed he may have ingested fentanyl. Both of his parents were charged in his death.

Second person to plead guilty in death of Logan Huston

Huston is the second person to plead guilty to the death of Logan Huston. The child's mother, Emmalee Huston, 32, pleaded guilty in early February to involuntary manslaughter.

Summit County Common Pleas Judge Tammy O'Brien sentenced her to 3 to 4½ years in prison.
