Airbnb: These Colorado homes among top spots in the world to propose

DENVER (KDVR) — From a marriage in the backyard to a rental with over 100 proposals, these two Colorado Airbnbs are some of the most well-known stays in the world for proposals.

Airbnb listed a handful of spots around the world that are the top stays for popping the question, and two of them are in Colorado.

One Airbnb home in Idledale, known as the “Red Rocks Oasis,” made the list after having over 100 proposals on the property, according to Airbnb. Idledale is an unincorporated town south of Genesee.

Another property in Estes Park is also known for proposals and even weddings. The place is named Hot Tub Near National Park.

Nathan Welton, the owner of the Airbnb in Estes Park, said one time he came home, and his guests were getting married in the backyard. As a wedding photographer, he’s also taken many engagement photos on his property.

Welton attributes some of the spot’s romance to the design of the home.

“I wanted to create a space where people can connect,” said Welton. “I made a conscious decision not to have a television in there, and I put the bed right in front of this giant window so every morning when the sun rises, if you want to watch the sunrise, you can just see it come up over the mountains right from bed. Little things like that just, I feel like, make it a little bit more romantic and encourage people to actually connect.”

Right now, the Airbnb consists of a private basement room, but Welton plans to transform the entire home into a rentable space.

Guests have left reviews on both Airbnb homes announcing they got engaged at the properties.

At the Idledale Airbnb, multiple guests left reviews that mention proposals on the website that range from a few months ago to years ago.

“This oasis was beautiful, and the views are unmatched. I proposed to my girlfriend here and the hosts were so kind with extra little touches. The bed is super comfortable, and all of the amenities were fantastic. Try to take advantage of the hot tub if you can. Very romantic and also feels private being detached from the main house,” Corey commented eight months ago.

“Gorgeous castle and terrace. Proposed to my girlfriend there. It was magical,” Vishal commented in 2016.

Denver property owners asked to rent to migrants

Meanwhile, the Estes Park location reviews mentioned many proposals throughout the years as well.

“I took my now fiancé here to stay the night in Estes after I proposed in RMNP, and it was perfect. The view was gorgeous, it was simple, and we loved hut rubbing with the view. Also, SUPER close to downtown and good price. Easy to find. Would stay again!” Rachel commented in October 2023.

“Nathan’s place was great for our weekend stay among the Rockies. I chose this as the home base for my girlfriend and my trip where we got engaged and would definitely recommend it to anyone celebrating a special occasion or looking for some great views. The way the bed is positioned in the open-style flat, you can get an amazing view of the mountains as you lay down. It felt naturey and private and was in a wonderful location to visit the national park and the cool town nearby,” Nathan commented in 2017.

Airbnb lists other places worldwide as top spots to propose with locations in Australia, Italy, Scotland, England, Canada, North Carolina and Texas.

These Colorado Airbnbs are two of the four rentals in the U.S. that made the list.
