Airbnb: Austin, Hill Country most booked ahead of solar eclipse weekend

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Airbnb said it was seeing a “celestial trend” ahead of the solar eclipse in April.

The property rental company noted Austin and the Hill Country, both along the eclipse’s path of totality, were top trending destinations for travelers.

The eclipse is set to appear mid-day April 8, across Mexico, the US and Canada, which will be the last time a total solar eclipse will cross North America for more than 20 years.

According to Airbnb, Texas was among the most-booked states with guests coming from all around the world.

“We’re seeing interest across the entire state, with a nearly 600% surge in searches on the platform for Texas over the solar eclipse weekend,” Airbnb said.

The property rental company also said that as of Thursday, more than 60% of listings on the path of totality in Texas were already booked.

Airbnb said its data also showed a 1000% increase in searches for stays along the solar eclipse path of totality in the US.

According to Airbnb, other popular cities along the path of totality include:

  • Mazatlán, Mexico

  • Indianapolis, IN

  • Montreal, Canada

  • Cleveland, OH

  • Dallas, TX

  • Niagara Region, Canada

  • Buffalo, NY

  • Stowe, VT

  • Little Rock, AR
