Air quality alert in place through middle of day Monday

May 13—The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air quality alert through noon Monday as the air quality index is expected to reach the unhealthy category.

The alert comes as a band of heavy smoke from wildfires in northeast British Columbia moved into Minnesota. The smoke was expected to reach southern Minnesota by Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service states sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, may experience health effects. They should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.
