Air Power Park to ‘relaunch’ with ribbon-cutting ceremony

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Air Power Park in Hampton is set to ‘relaunch’ with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday.

The ceremony, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., aims to celebrate the restoration of air and spacecraft, renewed landscaping, a new kayak launch, expanded dock and improved resiliency of Newmarket Creek.

Attendees will be able to experience space-themed activities, exhibits and live music by the H.M. Johnson Band. Food trucks will also be on site. During the event, The Hampton History Museum will also provide tours of jets and rockets at the outdoor exhibits.

Air Power Park, located at 413 W. Mercury Boulevard, is a free 15-acre park which features vintage aircraft and space launch vehicles from the ’50s and ’60s. The park is also a part of Hampton’s Waterwalk trail.

Free parking will be available at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, and free shuttles will be provided from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. On-site parking will be available to those with disabilities.
