Air 1 assists in arrests of three teenagers

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Three teenagers were arrested following a search for stolen vehicles by Air 1 and the Buffalo Police Department Thursday evening, according to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.

Buffalo Police Department officers allegedly spotted a stolen SUV in the area of E. Delavan Ave. and Eggert Rd. on the evening of March 28. According to officials, Air 1 was on a routine training flight and proceeded to track the vehicle after a request for assistance by the BPD.

It is alleged that Alexander Wilson, 19, of Buffalo, Abreia Tucker, 19, of Buffalo and an unnamed juvenile offender, 16, drove into a parking lot off of Ellicott St. to enter another stolen vehicle, a Honda Civic. They then allegedly drove the vehicle to a different parking lot on W. Delavan Ave. before attempting to flee.

Suspects Wilson and Tucker were apprehended on W. Delavan Ave. by BPD patrol while the juvenile was apprehended in a yard on Lafayette Ave. Air 1 was able to find the 16-year-old juvenile through thermal imaging, according to officials.

All three were charged with the following:

  • one count, third degree criminal possession of stolen property

  • one count, third degree grand larceny

  • one count, third degree unauthorized use of a vehicle

Wilson was also charged with one count of false personation and one count of third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Additionally, the juvenile was charged with one count of fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property.

“It is more critical than ever for law enforcement agencies to work together,” said Erie County Sheriff John Garcia. “As this case demonstrates, our Aviation Unit is second to none.”
