Aiko Melendez won't be running for office in May

The actress hopes to focus on her showbiz career especially her drama, "The Story of Us"

- After serving three terms as Councilor in the second district of Quezon City, it was revealed that actress Aiko Melendez will not be running for office in the May elections.

As reported on Philstar News, the actress confirmed her decision recently at the press conference for her new drama, "The Story of Us", saying, "For now, I am shying away from politics because I would like to focus on my career as an actress."

However, the actress denied that she is retiring permanently as a politician and that her decision can be considered a temporary break.

"I am still healing from my last election and I think the presidential election is now quite messy. So I would like to just be the spectator first," she said.

Nevertheless, Melendez said that her time as a politician will not be a waste, as she has learned a lot during her term.

In "The Story of Us", Melendez plays the role of Carmy, the stepmother of Kim Chiu's character, Tin.

The romantic drama premiered back on 29 February, following the conclusion of James Reid and Nadine Lustre's "On the Wings of Love".
