Agent denies warrant issued for Broncos' Miller
Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller's agent denies a bench warrant was issued for Miller's arrest in California for failure to appear in court for a speeding violation in 2012.
The news of the outstanding warrant in California follows another incident that came to light Tuesday. That citation was for driving without a license and speeding near his home last week, Arapahoe County (Colo.) Sheriff Grayson Robinson said Tuesday night.
Miller's attorney Mark Schamel said the speeding ticket was a violation of 10 miles per hour over the speed limit. Miller paid $240 for the violation, Schamel said.
A spokesperson for the Orange County courthouse retracted statements earlier Wednesday that a warrant existed, later in the day saying she "could not tell" where the case stood.
Robinson said Miller was not arrested after the more recent traffic stop. His father, who was in the vehicle with him, was allowed to drive Miller home.
Miller, 24, is currently serving a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.
"Obviously we're not happy about it," Broncos coach John Fox said Wednesday about Miller's citation in Colorado. "Everybody here has an individual responsibility, not only to themselves, but to this organization, to this football team, so it's something we're not pleased about. We'll leave it at that."
The NFL is aware of Miller's latest incident, but Miller is not under consideration for additional punishment at this time.
In August, the All-Pro was arrested when he attempted to buy a firearm and a background check indicated that he had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on charges from the previous October for careless driving and operating a vehicle without a license or proof of insurance.
The 2011 NFL defensive rookie of the year has 30 sacks in his first two seasons, including a franchise-record 18.5 last season.
