AFL-CIO Pulling Back Donations to Candidates

The AFL-CIO says there will be fewer contributions to political candidates this year, and that includes President Obama, U.S. News reports.

A spokesman says that the redeployment has been in the works for months and insisted the move is not related to Obama’s failure to show in the Wisconsin recall election.

"We wanted to start investing our funds in our own infrastructure and advocacy," AFL-CIO spokesman Josh Goldstein told the magazine. "There will be less contributions to candidates."

The group donated $1.2 million to Democrats in 2008 and has extensive voter mobilization operations.
