Affordable housing lottery in Brooklyn features free rent for seniors

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Applications for 118 affordable housing units in Brooklyn are now being accepted on NYC Housing Connect, with some apartments costing $0 for rent.

The first housing lottery is for Euclid Glenmore, located at 437 Euclid Ave. in East New York. There are 53 units available in the lottery, with the lowest rent being $617 per month and the highest at $1,931.

The complex offers one, two and three-bedroom units and tenants pay for electric and use of the electric stove. Applicants must make between $24,515 to $105,060 to rent one of the affordable housing units.

The lottery is expected to close on April 16.

The second housing lottery is for Rheingold Senior Residences, located at 15 Monteith St. in Bushwick. At least one member of your household must be age 62 or older to be able to apply for one of the 65 available units.

The residential building has studio and one-bedroom apartments available with a monthly rent of $0. Amenities include a rooftop garden, office space, community rooms, shared laundry rooms, air conditioning, public transportation access, an elevator and energy-efficient appliances, according to the listing on NYC Housing Connect.

Applicants can make anywhere from $0 to $63,550 to be eligible for one of the units. Gas for cooking, heat and hot water are included in the rent, while the tenant is responsible for electric.

The lottery is expected to close on April 15.
