New affordable housing community coming to Cumberland County

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) — A new affordable housing community will soon be constructed in Cumberland County.

According to Woda Cooper Companies Inc., they have recently agreed to purchase the former 3-acre TYCO parcel at 759 Hamilton Street in the 5th district of the Borough of Carlisle, from the Real Estate Collaborative.

It is important to note that the Real Estate Collaborative is a subsidiary of the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation.

In partnership with the non-profit Tri-County Housing of Harrisburg, Wooda Cooper Inc. plans to construct a 45-unit affordable rental community, with eight townhouses that will be offered to first-time home buyers.

“We are eager to plan a community that helps address the need for quality affordable housing in the Carlisle area with amenities needed by families,” Andrew B. Cohen, Woda Cooper’s Senior Vice President of Development said.

Once completed, the new community will boast approximately 50,000 square feet of gross building area. Woda Cooper Companies Inc. says that the property in Carlisle is still under contract but is expected to close in March 2025, which is when construction is slated to begin.

They hope to unveil the new affordable community in July 2026.

Woda Cooper Companies Inc. was first founded in 1990 and now operates in 17 states and features a portfolio of 330 communities and 16,000 units that are operating or under construction.

Currently, the company has 25 properties across Pennsylvania.
