Aetna Better Health of Va. donates $400k to Twelve Foundation to support women’s facility
RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — Aetna Better Health of Virginia, a company part of CVS Health, donated $400,000 in funding to Restoration Housing for the purchase of a property to be used by the Twelve Foundation in Roanoke.
Focused on supporting mothers with substance abuse disorder, the Twelve Foundation is a non-profit organization that serves pregnant and postpartum women and their infants. The new facility on Patterson Avenue will serve as a clinically managed low-intensity residential area and a partial hospitalization site. This will include substance use disorder case management services, medication-assisted treatment, and individual therapy.
“We’re proud to support the purchase of this property, which will provide crucial services to pregnant women and new mothers with substance use disorder who are looking to make a fresh start,” said Joel Gray, CEO of Aetna Better Health of Virginia. “This donation reflects our commitment to improve the health and well-being of all communities across the Commonwealth, and resolve the complex and intertwined physical, social and mental health care needs of the patients we serve.”

Restoration Housing will restore the building, install ADA-complaint facilities, install fire suppression systems, and transform the property into a supportive treatment facility for pregnant women, new mothers, and children.
The facility’s supportive programming will serve approximately 28 women and 28 babies annually through medicated treatment, provide essential medical care, and support services.
“This facility will be a beacon of hope for pregnant women and new mothers in need of support,” said Isabel Thornton, Executive Director of Restoration Housing. “We are grateful for Aetna’s generous donation, which will enable us to purchase the facility, and partner with a nonprofit to provide comprehensive care to women and infants in the community.”
Renovations are expected to be completed for operations to begin in the fall of 2024, with programming guaranteed for a minimum of 10 years.
