Adults-only Disney drag brunch at Texas Live! draws protest over ‘protecting kids’

About 30 protesters gathered in Arlington on Sunday to protest a Disney Drag Brunch event at Texas Live!, mirroring a similar protest in Dallas a week ago.

Standing outside in 100-degree heat, the protesters were about a block away from the event at Troy’s restaurant.

Their focus of the protest was on “protecting kids,” as one protester said, despite the Disney Drag Brunch being a 21 and up event with no minors allowed.

The protest follows a Dallas drag show on June 4 that was labeled as family-friendly and saw a group of demonstrators opposing the fact that there were minors at the event. The topic has quickly become a talking point for Republican leaders.

Two days after the Dallas drag show, Republican Texas Rep. Bryan Slaton said he will file a bill to ban drag shows in the presence of minors.

“Perverted adults are obsessed with sexualizing young children,” Slaton, who represents regions east of Collin County, said in a press release.

On Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suggested that he may urge the state’s child protective services to investigate parents who take their children to drag shows.

The protesters near the Arlington show shared a similar sentiment, with one speaker suggesting that children were being groomed at an adult-oriented show.

A portion of the proceeds from the drag show will go to the Help Center for LGBT Health & Wellness and the Arlington Museum of Art.
