ADO The Hague hires Fons Groenendijk as new coach

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Dutch Eredivisie club ADO The Hague has hired Fons Groenendijk as coach to replace Zeljko Petrovic, who was fired Tuesday after the team slumped to four straight defeats.

ADO announced Wednesday that 52-year-old Groenendijk, who played for Manchester City in the 1993-94 season, has signed a contract until the end of the season with an option for two more years. Financial terms were not disclosed.

ADO is currently 16th in the 18-team Dutch top tier league and facing a battle to avoid relegation.
