Adele leads American Music Awards nominations
The nominations for the 2011 American Music Awards were announced on October 11 by Nicki Minaj and rapper Pitbull, with British singer/songwriter Adele in a narrow lead with four nominations.
Adele's categories include Favorite Female Artist, Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year. Her second album, 21, has sold an estimated 10 million copies worldwide and remained at the top of the Billboard charts for 12 weeks in a row, the most since 2000.
Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, Rihanna and Taylor Swift each received three nominations. Artists with two nods include Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown and Kanye West. LMFAO, Nicki Minaj and Pitbull collected two nominations.
Winners, called "favorite" rather than "best," will be determined by fans voting online at the website http://www.amavote.com.
Katy Perry and Pitbull are among the performers announced so far.
The 39th annual AMAs will be telecast live from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on November 20 on ABC-TV.
