Addison geared up for 51st annual National Pike Festival

ADDISON ― The 51st National Pike Festival in Addison is set for May 16-19 with plenty of activities planned.

School children from Grantsville and Friendsville, Maryland, schools will be visiting May 16-17 to participate in these activities:

Class in one-room Humbertson School; blacksmith and tools of the trade; visit Frederick Augustine History House and Museum; French and Indian War storyteller; Addison Volunteer Fire Department Show & Tell with the new brush truck and an 1890 fire apparatus; Fort Necessity Ranger storyteller; and an Old Petersburg Toll House Gate No. 1 tour.

Addison will also celebrate the festival with stamp cancellation at the Addison Post Office, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. May 16-18.

An Armed Forces Day program will be held at 7 p.m. May 18, in the Addison ME Chapel Social Room. Ranger Brian Reedy from Fort Necessity will present a program on "General George Washington and his Leadership Skills." Dan Kelley will provide some music.

A combined church service with Blessing of the Pets will be held at 9 a.m. May 19, at St. John's Lutheran Church. A car show will be held from 11:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Lutheran Church.
