Action!: 'Better Call Saul' begins production on final season

Mar. 7—It's official.

According to the New Mexico Film Office, the final season of "Better Call Saul" has begun production.

The sixth and final season will feature 13 episodes.

"Better Call Saul" is the prequel spinoff to the hugely successful series "Breaking Bad."

Fans have been anticipating the final season to see the transition of Jimmy McGill into Saul Goodman.

Alicia J. Keyes, New Mexico Economic Development Department Cabinet Secretary, said that "Breaking Bad," "El Camino" and "Better Call Saul" productions helped put New Mexico on the map as a destination for film and TV.

"New Mexicans everywhere will forever hold tight to the claim to fame as the place where these productions were created," Keyes said. "While we are all wanting to know how the two stories intersect, it is truly bittersweet for those of us in the New Mexico film community to announce production on this final season of 'Better Call Saul.' "

According to the film office, the production will employ over 400 New Mexico crew members, over 150 New Mexico principal actors and over 1,500 background talent.

Amber Dodson, NM Film Office director, said the production has had a lasting impact for New Mexico and credited the "Breaking Bad" universe for changing the game for film and TV in the state.

"Not only did New Mexico's biggest city, Albuquerque get a major starring role in these productions, but New Mexico's sky, desert, and locations were showcased unlike anything we have ever seen on the screen before," Dodson said.
