Accused shooter facing new charges in Union County
May 17—LEWISBURG — An accused shooter in a 2020 incident in Union County is facing new charges after allegedly holding a woman hostage and threatening to kill her earlier this month, according to Buffalo Valley Regional Police.
Julio Gonzalez, 27, of South Fourth Street, Lewisburg, was charged with three misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, unlawful restraint and harassment; and a summary count of harassment. The charges were filed by Buffalo Valley Regional Police Patrolman Quaylin Rice in the Lewisburg office of District Judge Jeffrey Rowe.
Gonzalez is accused of shooting Daevon Bodden in the leg and grazing the neck of a second man, Jeffin Lewis, in a targeted attack in June 1, 2020, outside of a home along Route 45, just west of the Lewisburg Borough line. He was charged by Buffalo Valley Police with attempted homicide and aggravated assault and picked up by authorities on June 11, 2020.
A woman reported on May 13 to police that she was concerned for her and her child's safety because Gonzalez allegedly threatened to kill her. Gonzalez on April 22 allegedly attacked and bit her on her right forearm, police said.
The woman also reported that Gonzalez held her hostage at his home on May 9, took her phone away and threatened to kill her. Gonzalez also allegedly tried to punch her multiple times but he missed due to the woman moving out of the way, police said.
The woman was able to get away with her phone and car keys. She fled the house and went to her sister's home, police said.
At approximately 12:41 p.m., Gonzalez allegedly sent the woman a threatening message, telling her he planned to haunt her and make her life a living hell.
Gonzalez appeared before Union County Judge Michael Piecuch where the judge granted Conflicts Counsel K. Michael Sullivan's motion to withdraw as Gonzalez's attorney. The judge also granted Gonzalez additional time to work out the details of his new attorney.
Piecuch said Gonzalez's bail was revoked and a hearing would be scheduled to hear arguments about whether to reinstate bail.
Multiple properties were struck on June 11, 2020 by alleged gunfire from Gonzalez as well as alleged return fire from Bodden, 22, of Lewisburg, police said.
Mark Parrilla, 33, of Lewisburg, and Stephen Reid, 32, of Lewisburg, accused of being involved in the drive-by shooting, have pending cases. Reid has a bail revocation hearing at 2 p.m. May 21 in front of Piecuch.
Reid and Parrilla, who are brothers, are both charged by Buffalo Valley Regional Police with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure and criminal conspiracy — 14 total counts.
The brothers are accused by police investigators of conspiring with Gonzalez and the driver of the vehicle from which the shots were reportedly fired, Justin Calzada, 27, of Northumberland.
Calzada pleaded guilty to a felony count of conspiracy to discharge a firearm into an occupied structure, but his sentencing was not listed in online court documents.
Bodden in September 2021 pleaded guilty to a felony count of discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure and was sentenced in November 2021 to 22 to 72 months in state prison, according to court documents.
Gonzalez is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 2:30 p.m. May 23 in front of Rowe.
