Accused ‘serial diaper dumper’ charged by Forsyth County deputies

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office charged a man they say is a “serial diaper dumper” for consistently littering used diapers along a busy road.

For 50 years, Vera Williamson has called Pfafftown, which is just west of Winston-Salem, home.

Recently, someone the FCSO describes as a “serial diaper dumper” has been using Balsom Road as their personal garbage can.

“Sometimes, they’re soiled … Sometimes, they’re not. Sometimes, they’re in a bag … Sometimes, they’re loose. For at least a mile down the road, they’ve been doing for two years or longer,” Williamson said.

Williamson’s neighbor Michelle Swaim says they’ve gotten used to seeing piles of diapers.

“And who would want to touch them because they’re disgusting? I’ve seen dogs that would go and try to grab at the diapers and … mowers who mow up the diapers, so it was just particles everywhere,” Swaim said.

Timothy Mabe says he had a feeling the dumping was intentional.

“You knew it had to be somebody that was consistently doing it, and we had no idea who it was,” Mabe said.

The FCSO got to the bottom of it.

A spokesperson says they gave a 71-year-old a citation for illegally dumping his adult diapers.

Williamson says he dumped more than that.

“Sometimes, it would be bed pads, I’ve picked up bed pads, too,” Williamson said.

Though community members are glad to know the person deputies say is responsible has been caught, they’re worried nothing will change.

After years of dumping dirty diapers, Swaim thinks a citation is just a slap on the wrist.

We reached out to a spokesperson from the FCSO to find out if there was a motive or if the suspect had previous offenses.

We are still waiting for a response.
