Accused Baton Rouge drug dealer charged after traffic stop

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A traffic stop on Tuesday, April 16 ended with the seizure of drugs and the arrest of a Baton Rouge man.

Dexter Scott, 34, of Baton Rouge, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession\distribution manufacturing Schedule II (crystal meth), possession\distribution, manufacturing Schedule II (Oxycodone), possession of drug paraphernalia, driver must be licensed, and equipment violation; display of a plate.

A little after 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday, an officer with the Baton Rouge Police Department could not make out the license plate on a vehicle that was traveling on Greenwell Springs Road.

BRPD said the plate was obstructed and the officer initiated a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle proceeded to turn onto Greentree Drive without using a turn signal.

The vehicle made its way to a driveway in the 3400 block of Greentree Drive and that is where the officer found Scott and one other person.

The other person was released at the conclusion of the investigation.

The officer could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle and Scott handed the officer 3.2 grams of marijuana in a baggie, BRPD said.

Both passengers got out of the vehicle and a search was conducted by the officer.

The officer found a “black backpack on the rear passenger’s side floorboard,” according to the affidavit.

It contained a baggie with 23.8 grams of crystal meth.

The backpack also contained a “digital scale, a box of sandwich baggies, and a prescription bottle with a label, Ibuprofen that contained 21 dosage units of Oxycodone pills,” according to the affidavit.

Scott said that backpack “belonged to his cousin.” He “denied any knowledge of the bag in the rear nor the items located within it,” according to BRPD.

The Baton Rouge man was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
