According to Rodney Harrison, Colin Kaepernick Isn’t Even Black

It’s been 72 hours since new broke of San Francisco 49er Colin Kaepernick’s decision to not stand during the national anthem. His non-violent protest against the civil unrest that impacts men and women of color has drawn support from many, and also the ire of the country. One naysayer former San Diego Charger Rodney Harrison claims Kaepernick doesn’t truly understand the plight of black men because he isn’t one himself.

“I tell you this, I’m a black man. And Colin Kaepernick — he’s not black,” Harrison said during an iHeartRadio interview. “He can not understand what I face and what other young black men and black people face, or people of color face, on a every single (day) basis. When you walk in a grocery store, and you might have $2,000 or $3,000 in your pocket and you go up in to a Foot Locker and they’re looking at you like you about to steal something.”

Kaepernick was adopted when he was a child, however he comes from a white birth mother and black father, making him biracial.

“I don’t think he faces those type of things that we face on a daily basis,” the former San Francisco Charger said. Harrison isn’t the only athlete to speak out against Kaepernick’s action. Legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice took to Twitter Monday to state he respects Kaepernick’s stance, but to not disrespect the flag.
