Acadiana nonprofit organization helps clean up storm damage in St. Martin Parish

ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) — Following the recent severe weather that tore through St. Martin Parish, the organization Love Acadiana is taking action and helping clean up debris and spreading a little love in a time of need.

The non-profit organization has a disaster response team which goes into communities impacted by severe weather similar to what took place over a week ago. Executive Director of Love Acadiana Tara Baudoin said they, along with Catholic Charities, began assessing damaged properties in the area they noticed need their help.

“Henderson is our neighbors and we wanted to put our volunteers to work and bless some people,” Baudoin said.

Multiple teams are being dispatched to the selected areas of need as the two-day event will include helping break down debris, tarping over damages homes and providing anything else necessary for the community. Baudoin said she has noticed how much help members of the community have already provided and is excited to be a part of the mission.

“You know that these people would do the same for us if it happened to us,” Baudoin said. “They’ve been so good about taking care of their own neighbors. There’s a lot of people here. There’s a lot of elderly here that just need a little extra help and maybe couldn’t do it on their own or don’t have family that can. I think we play a big part in helping the community get back on its feet.”
