ABQ BioPark announces chimpanzee baby was stillborn

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The ABQ BioPark announced that one of their chimpanzees has given birth to a baby that did not survive. The BioPark announced last month that chimpanzee Zoe was pregnant for the first time. They say Zoe is healthy and received top prenatal care and monitoring throughout her pregnancy.

A necropsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. The BioPark says they are monitoring Zoe and the rest of the chimp troop to ensure they get the support and care they need.

Zoe originally came from the Oklahoma City Zoo in 2021 with a companion as part of the Species Survival Plan.
