All aboard! Bicycles soon will be welcomed on some Amtrak trains between Chicago-Michigan

PORT HURON, Mich. - Bicycles soon will be welcomed on some Amtrak trains running between Chicago and Michigan.

Amtrak announced Thursday that bicycles will be accepted aboard the Amtrak Blue Water line trains number 364 and 365 starting Sept. 6.

The service is sponsored by the Michigan Department of Transportation. The line stops in the Michigan cities of Port Huron, East Lansing and Kalamazoo.

Rail cars have been modified to create an area to carry up to four bikes per train. There is a $10 charge for transporting a bike, in addition to the regular train ticket price, and cyclists are encouraged to lock their bikes onto brackets mounted in the cars.
