Abita Springs mom accused of continuing son’s drug operation after his arrest

ABITA SPRINGS, La. (WGNO) — An Abita Springs mom is accused of continuing her son’s drug operation after his arrest.
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office leaders said detectives received information that 48-year-old Monique Sagona was allegedly in possession of narcotics with the intent to sell them with assistance from her son, who is currently incarcerated in the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center.
Allen Tate Jr., 28, was arrested on Wednesday, March 6 following a community tip that led to a drug bust.
An investigation led detectives to obtain a search warrant on Thursday, March 12, at Sagona’s home in the 73000 block of Iron Street in the Hillcrest neighborhood of Abita Springs.
Detectives allegedly found the following at Sagona’s home:
50 doses suspected LSD (acid)
0.7 grams of suspected cocaine
12 chocolate bars suspected to contain psylocibin mushrooms
332 grams of suspected psylocibin mushrooms
4 dosage units of Vyvanse
36 dosage units of counterfeit Adderall pills suspected to contain fentanyl
6 grams of suspected heroin
10 one-gram THC vapes
1.57 pounds of suspected marijuana
An assortment of drug paraphernalia
Investigators said they were able to confirm Tate and Sagona were conspiring to continue Tate’s distribution of narcotics while Tate was incarcerated.

Sagona was arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:
Four counts of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana or synthetic cannabinoids
Two counts of possession
Three counts of possession with the intent to distribute
Two counts of possession with the intent to distribute
Attempt and conspiracy regarding the distribution of illegal narcotics
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Tate was booked additionally for attempt and conspiracy regarding the distribution of illegal narcotics.
“This is not the kind of family business we want operating in our parish,” said Sheriff Randy Smith. “The detectives with our Narcotics Division are dedicated to getting illegal drugs out of neighborhoods. They do not simply make arrests, they continue to work cases until they uncover and arrests all individuals involved.”
