Abita Springs man arrested after tip leads to drug bust

ABITA SPRINGS, La. (WGNO) — A community tip led to a drug bust and the arrest of a man in Abita Springs on Wednesday, March 6.

Leaders with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that investigators were tipped by community led members about drug activity in the 73000 block of Eagle Street.

It led investigators with the STPSO’s Narcotics Division to arrest 28-year-old Allen Tate Jr. in the Hillcrest neighborhood of Abita Springs.

Investigators were able to obtain a search warrant for Tate’s home, where they said they found drugs.

Detectives allegedly found:

  • 10.6 grams of suspected cocaine

  • 11.2 grams of suspected Ketamine,

  • 24 dosage units of suspected LSD,

  • 562.4 grams of suspected marijuana,

  • 67.1 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms

  • 205 dosage units of suspected Xanax

  • 102.5 dosage units of suspected Adderall

  • 81 dosage units of suspected THC vapes

  • 402 grams of suspected THC wax

  • 294.6 grams of suspected Codeine

  • 3.52 ounces of suspected psilocybin mushrooms edibles

  • assortment of drug paraphernalia for narcotics sales

  • $10,355 in cash

STPSO leaders said Tate’s 2016 Dodge Challenger was also seized, allegedly having been bought with drug money.

Tate was arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

  • Possession with the intent to distribute cocaine

  • Possession with the intent to distribute ketamine

  • Possession with the intent to distribute LSD

  • 3 counts of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana

  • 2 counts possession with the intent to distribute psilocybin Mushrooms

  • Possession with the intent to distribute Xanax

  • Possession with the intent to distribute Adderall

  • Possession with the intent to distribute codeine

  • Transactions involving proceeds from drug offences

  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

“Keeping illegal drugs out of our neighborhoods is a cooperative effort between law enforcement and our residents,” said Sheriff Randy Smith.

“I thank the residents who contacted us to make us aware of Mr. Tate’s drug activity and encourage others who notice suspicious behavior in their neighborhoods to do the same,” Smith said.
