Abingdon High School Principal B.J. Lasley said the additions make a big impact in terms of security.

“Unless you have a purpose and a specific purpose to be with us inside that building, there are layers there to make sure that safety is there at all times,” Lasley said.

The school is also constructing a new office for school resource officers.

“What we do every day, our first priority is the safety of our students and our staff, and this allows that to be a reality,” Lasley said. “There are now systems and procedures in place that we’re able to have so that safety is at the forefront every single day.”
