Abilene police arrest Mississippi man in connection to local construction worker’s hit-&-run

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An arrest has been made in connection to an Abilene construction worker’s on-the-job hit-and-run this January.

Derrick Lamar Pierce of Waynesboro, Mississippi was identified on April 4 as the driver of an orange pickup truck which had hit a construction worker on I-20 in Abilene on January 31.

Witnesses described the pickup truck to police, and investigators were able to get a look at the vehicle and driver through video footage from a nearby gas station, identifying the driver as Pierce.

Pierce was booked into the Taylor County Jail on Wednesday on the charge of 3rd degree felony Collision Involving Serious Bodily Injury. Pierce was released on a $30,000 surety bond on Wednesday.

According to court documents, the victim sustained road rash and multiple broken bones after being hit by the pickup truck. In a recent update from police, that victim continues to have limited mobility today.
