Abilene man accused of stabbing wife while giving her a hug sentenced to 30 years

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene man accused of stabbing wife while giving her a hug has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Einer Estiven Zapata received his 30-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to Aggravated Assault in Taylor County Thursday.

Court documents state Zapata allegedly stabbed his wife during a domestic disturbance in August 2019.

Officers arrived to an injured subject call and found three people inside a home, including Zapata’s wife, who the documents state was “in a partly crumpled up position holding her stomach.”

She had suffered a severe stab wound. The documents reveal she told officers that when she told Zapata she wanted a separation, he asked her for a hug, and when she went to hug him, he stabbed her with a knife multiple times.

The wife did receive treatment at the hosptial and survived.
