Abilene ISD appoints Dr. Joseph Waldron as 2nd-in-command for district

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Abilene ISD has appointed Dr. Joseph Waldron, Ed.D. to serve as deputy superintendent for the district.

As deputy superintendent, the district said Dr. Waldron will be second-in-command for all of the district and the lead when Supt. Dr. John Kuhn is unable to respond.

“Dr. Waldron is a precise thinker who provides deep and specific knowledge across a broad range of areas in public education,” said Dr. John Kuhn, Abilene ISD superintendent. “I am confident he is the right person to help initiate bold strategies that will lead AISD to success now and in the future.”

Dr. Waldron has been with Abilene ISD since 2019, beginning as the district’s associate superintendent of human resources. Prior to that, he was an educator for 20+ years.

“I am truly honored and my family is blessed beyond measure to step into this important role for the future of Abilene ISD,” said Waldron. “I am poised and ready to get to work as we build the strongest educational opportunities for students in the Big Country, unmatched in scope and diversity. Abilene ISD is the heartbeat of the city of Abilene, and I am proud to be a part of the team leading that work.”
