Abby Whelan To Have An Impactful Monologue In ‘Scandal’ Season 6 Premiere

“Scandal” Season 6 star Darby Stanchfield recently opened up about her character, Abby Whelan.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the actress revealed that the result of the elections isn’t the only story worth waiting for in the premiere. On top of this, Abby will have a very impactful monologue. “We pick up Season 6 and Abby is still Chief of Staff. The difference so far is we see Abby starting to get comfortable with her power. It’s been a long climb, a struggle, and a claw to get into the bubble of the White House. Now, she’s really running the show and nobody seems to notice; it’s great,” she said.

In Season 5, Abby did not hestitate to burn her bridges with Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) if it meant remaining loyal to President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn). When it was the president of the United States who got himself into trouble, Abby was always ready to get him out of it, just like what Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry) used to do for him.

Meanwhile, “Scandal” Season 6, episode 2 will also have another major storyline involving Abby and President Fitz. In “Hardball,” the two characters will be faced with an unprecedented national crisis and will be left with no other choice but to take control of the situation. As of late, no other details about this have been released by ABC.

In the same episode, flashbacks will reveal what Olivia had to go through to make sure that her presidential bet, Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young), will become the next president of the country. Elsewhere, the Gladiators, namely Quinn (Katie Lowes), Marcus (Cornelius Smith Jr.) and Huck (Guillermo Diaz), will go in search for answers.

“Scandal” Season 6, episode 1 will air on ABC on Jan. 26 at 9 p.m. EST.
